Assam, the northeastern state of India is situated in a close border to the Himalayas between the latitudes of 24 degree and 26 degree and longitudes of 90 degree and 96 degree. The state covers the massive valleys of Brahmaputra River and Barak River and Mikir Hills Plateau, the North Cachar hills and the plains and hills of Cachar district. Geography
The northeastern state of Assam has a significant geographical feature as it contains three of the six physiographic divisions of India that include the Northern Himalayas (Eastern Hills), the Northern Plains (Brahmaputra plains), and Deccan Plateaue (Karbi Anglong). Assam lies along the northeastern chain of India, sprawling on the south of the eastern Himalayas along the great valleys of Brahmaputra and Barak River. The second largest northeastern state is expansively bordered by the territories of Bhutan, Arunachal Pradesh to the north; Nagaland and Manipur to the east; Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, Bangladesh to the south; and West Bengal to the west through the chicken chain of Siliguri Corridor. Dispur is the capital city of Assam.
